A 6-Week Teaching Series at The Rock Church

What Is a Christian?

October 4 - November 8

What Does It Really Mean to Be a Christian?

If you've lived in Utah for any length of time, you've probably heard this question: "Do you think Mormons are Christians?"

Over the years, many of our LDS friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even attendees have asked us this sincere question. This question is rarely asked with hostility or argument -- but with genuine curiosity.

Rather than simply giving our opinion, we believe a better question is: What does the Bible say a Christian is?

This series is not about attacking anyone's faith, winning arguments, or putting labels on people. It is about opening God's Word and honestly exploring what Scripture teaches about God, Jesus, salvation, truth, and what it means to follow Christ.

Whether you are LDS, Catholic, Protestant, exploring faith for the first time, or simply asking questions, you are welcome here.

Our prayer is that this series will bring clarity, understanding, and hope as we seek to discover together what the Bible teaches.

Series Schedule

  1. October 4

    Authority

    Who Defines Truth?

Everyone believes something is true -- but who gets to define truth? Is truth determined by culture, personal experience, church tradition, modern revelation, or God's Word? This message explores why Christians believe the Bible is God's trustworthy revelation and the final authority for faith and life.

  2. October 11

    Adoration

    Who Is God?

Who is God really? What is His nature, His character, and His relationship to humanity? Together we'll examine what Scripture teaches about the one true God who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- and why understanding God rightly matters more than we often realize.

  3. October 18

    Almighty

    Who Is Jesus?

Nearly everyone has an opinion about Jesus. Some see Him as a prophet, others as a great teacher, and others as a moral example. But who did Jesus claim to be? This message explores the biblical identity of Christ and why understanding who Jesus truly is sits at the very center of Christianity.

  4. October 25

    Atonement

    What Is the Gospel?

What does it actually mean to be saved? Is salvation something we earn, achieve, or receive? This message examines the heart of the Christian message: that forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life are possible because of what Jesus accomplished for us.

  5. November 1

    Awakening

What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?

Jesus said, "You must be born again." But what did He mean? Christianity is more than a religious label or a moral lifestyle. This message explores the transforming work God does in the heart and why spiritual rebirth is essential to genuine faith.

  6. November 8

    Assurance

    Can I Know I'm Saved?

Can a person truly know where they stand with God? Is salvation something we can have confidence in, or must we live in uncertainty? In our final week, we'll explore the promises of God and discover how believers can have assurance based on Christ's finished work rather than their own performance.
